Tulsa, Okla. – ActiveTarget, the forward-facing sonar technology from Lowrance® that has changed the way pro and elite-level anglers have been finding and catching fish since it debuted 1.5 years ago, has had an impact beyond just catching a lot more fish. Casual and experienced anglers alike are finding some unusual objects below the surface with more clarity than they’d ever seen before: from smaller objects like tires and bicycles to bigger things like boats, cars, trucks, buses – even submerged bridges.
“The ability for anglers to see the world beneath their boats, live, in detail and in real-time is a great tool for users, said Simon Conder, Head of Brand, Lowrance. “The fact ActiveTarget is unlocking some amazing underwater secrets and even helping clear up waters, as well, is great to see.”
This was especially true with a surprise finding recently during Major League Fishing’s (MLF) Pro Circuit Lithium Pros Stop 3 at Pickwick Lake, Tennessee.
“We were out testing an angler’s Ghost Trolling Motor after doing some work on it and adjusting the settings for his ActiveTarget clarity,” explains Cheryl Spencer, who works with Team Lowrance professional anglers across the U.S. “We were just finishing up the boat test, when we spotted this odd shape in the water. And sure enough, it was a pick-up truck down there. We called the Sheriff’s office to report the truck, the truck and been stolen and then hidden in the lake, luckily there were no casualties when they dove down to tie the cables.”
The pick-up truck was brought to the surface and for their timely investigative work, Spencer and Team Lowrance pro Jimmy Reese’s came away with some pretty memorable visuals of the pick-up at the bottom of Pickwick Lake thanks to ActiveTarget.
“Those are some pictures worth keeping,” remarked Spencer.

Plenty of other things are being unveiled by users, One ActiveTarget user shared a screenshot of a well-known submerged bridge, long unused, as it lays 20 feet underwater, but a great home fish who hide underneath.
ActiveTarget Live sonar uses a transducer that mounts on a Ghost Trolling Motor shaft and allows boaters to scan in forward, down or scout views, allowing user to watch fish live and see how they react to their lures, ultimately helping them catch more.
Another angler out of France spotted this outline on his Lowrance Display – which turned out to be part of a bus at the bottom, sheltering lots of fish.
A scan sent to Lowrance staff from this customer featured a boat lying at the bottom of a lake.
But not all things are quite so out of the ordinary. ActiveTarget was designed for users to easily find, watch and target fish live, but like this user you never know what you might find. Even the occasional tire that just happens to be a hiding spot for some fish.
