Another cold front is clearing the area and should be done early Friday AM at the latest, setting the table for ANOTHER great weekend.  The weekend will be Sunny and pleasant with high temps between 75 and 80 all weekend, with Sunday being the warmest of the days, where LOW 80’s will be possible.

Nighttime lows will be around 60 or so and expect light and variable winds all weekend.

As stated, rain should clear all areas by noon Friday and literally NO shot of rain over the weekend.

Looking towards the future, summer is nice in that ALL day rain events are not as common, but the showers and thunderstorms pop up. We are actually a little above normal temp wise for May, but it’s seemed a bit cooler compared to a run of May where temps where 5-6 degrees above normal. With a budding el Nino, June or July could end up a bit cooler than normal on average looking at past years.

Hurricane Flag

The NWS released it’s hurricane forecast and has a typical outlook of below normal.

Here are their stats:

Based on the current and expected conditions, combined with model forecasts, we estimate a 70% probability for each of the following ranges of activity during 2014:

  • 8-13 Named Storms

  • 3-6 Hurricanes

  • 1-2 Major Hurricanes

  • Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) range of 40%-100% of the median.

Sounds about right based on past growing El Nino’s. Basically, more energy from the Sub tropical Jet creates more shear, and shear prevents some Hurricane Growth in the Atlantic. Still, one storm can really make or break a season.  The official start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season is June 1st, or this Sunday.
