Troy Wines Wins The Bass Cast Kayak Bass Series on the Maury/James River with 82.50″
Maury/James River Recap by Danielle Englund
It was a hot one out there on Saturday, July 23, but 16 anglers braved the heat to fish our tournament on the Maury and James River. We have been looking forward to this tournament all season, as it was our opportunity to have an event that ended at Journey Outdoors, our title sponsor. The morning went well for many of our anglers, and more than half of the submitted fish were caught by 10:30 AM. Once it heated up, the bite slow down, and some of our anglers struggled to get the big ones on the line. We had a very competitive group, and we’re excited that a couple of new folks joined us as well.
At our tournament HQ, Journey Outdoors, owners Bryan and Christina Volpe had provided barbecue, chicken salad, and all the fixings from Beam Me Up Barbecue. The food was delicious, and outshined only by our opportunity to spend time with some of our favorite people, who also happen to fish our tournament series.
The totals were close, with places 2 through 5 only having a total of 5” separating them. However, our winner, Troy Wines, blew the field away with 82.50”. He tied for big fish with our second place winner, Justin Largen, as they both had an 18.50” fish. Justin‘s total length was 73”, and third place went to Adam Flint, with 72.25”.
Our next tournament will be on the Shenandoah River on August 6. Registration will be available soon. As always, we think our sponsors, especially Journey Outdoors, and all of the anglers and their families who came out to join us on this fun, but hot Saturday.
