September 2022 Lower Roanoke River/Albermarle Sound Fishing Report by Capt. Scooter Lilley

This summer has started to transition into fall. With the dry year we have had in eastern NC the saltwater has pushed up into our sounds and rivers a lot further than years past. This has caused many of the areas I normally catch bass this time of the year to only yield stripers, flounder and puppy drum. In many areas it has fish residing in areas where they are forced to be. In some cases it maybe a creek, canal or up a river. Although when located the fish are in good numbers and healthy the situation has created a smaller area for some fish to thrive. The bass are still being caught and some bigs at that. My favorite technique’s for this time of year are using top water poppers, buzzbait, and pitching worms around cypress trees and docks. If your headed this way to fish I would definitely start near a large creek and work my way towards the back. Hope to see you on the water soon. For availability give me a call at 252-799-9536
