May Buggs Island Fishing Report by Captain Rick Morris

With all the recent heavy rains Kerr lake is high enough to bring the bushes into play for the BassMaster Open event that started today. The full moon is Friday that is bringing a new wave of spawners to the bank! As long as the core of engineers doesn’t drastically drop the water level over the next few days the BassMaster competitors will enjoy many fish, catching patterns, depending on the time of day and weather conditions. War Eagle, spinner, baits, buzz, baits, frogs swim baits, and of course, flipping lizards and creature baits directly into the base of the buck bushes. later this month I expect the water levels to come back down moving the post spawn bass out onto the long flat points then it will be time for top water, walking, baits like the Zara spook, swim baits, crank baits, for the bottom drop shot shaky head and Carolina rig.
