May 2018 Lake Anna Fishing Outlook by Chris Craft

BASS- The bass have finally made their push to the shallows and lots of them are spawning. By the end of the month, look for the best top water action of the season to start.

May is the month that the shad and herring will spawn, look foir them on shallow rocky points & rip rap banks. Walking top water baits like the Evergreen Custom Top Water Bait, Heddon Zara Spook and Spook Jr are great baits to imitate spawning baitfish. Soft jerkbaits are another great imitation of these spawning morsals.  CRAPPIE- Early in the month the Crappie will still be spawning, as we get to the middle of the month, they will start to push back out to deeper water for the summer. Willow grass, beaver huts, boat docks and sea walls will be holding fish during the spawn.

STRIPER- The Striper have been in the uplake area for quite some time and are now pushing their way back down tro mid lake.

Early in the morning, look for them to be chasing baitfish to the surface. Broken Back Redfins are my favorite bait to catch them on. Once the feed is over, a four inch swimbait, rigged on a 1/4oz jig head will continue to catch them.
