Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail, VA East Legacy Division

Allen and Austin Colgin win Lake Anna

Congratulations to Allen and Austin Colgin who caught 5 largemouth bass weighing in at 18.49 lbs to include 2nd Big Bass at 5.54 lbs capturing the first place title on Lake Anna. They reported catching their fish in one foot of water between the inside grass line and water’s edge in various location up the Anna arm on various plastics. The duo reported catching their fish in the morning hours with culling two fish in the afternoon for their winning weight. Austin praised our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the days catch, and thank his Mother and Father for supporting his love of the outdoors and various sports he is involved within. Austin extended his appreciation to several sponsors; S & W and Green Top Sporting Goods. Mr. Colgin expressed his appreciation and love to Misty; loving Mother and wife. Their efforts were worth $460 for first place. 2nd place went to Randy and Kevin Beasley (13.54 lbs.) and Big Bass weighing in at (6.06 lbs); 3rd place: Steve Roberts and Emma Merridith (12.34 lbs.); 4th place: Carl Sadler and Xan Callaway (10.81 lbs.); 5th place: Jeff Hamilton and Gavin Stone (10.22 lbs.); 6th place: Jeff Claiborne and John Porter (9.39 lbs.) 7th place: Kris Johnson and Logan Douglas (8.97 lbs.); 8th place: Tommy Hamilton and Calvin Carabin (8.59 lbs.); 9th place: Mark McGhee (sub) and Dylan McGhee (8.56 lbs.)

Saturday, May 5th was the second tournament for the 2012 season of the VA East Legacy. The tournament conditions included partly cloudy skies throughout the day, 5 mph winds and temperatures in the low 80’s. The water was normal from down to up lake and in between with temperatures in the low 70’s. A very special thank you is extended to Chris James and the Sturgeon Creek Marina staff for their support. We look forward to next year.

The pre-tournament meeting included food, fun and fellowship in an uplifting environment. 73 fishermen, family attended the meeting held at Anna Point Marinas outdoor pavilion. Anglers and friends were served hamburgers and hotdogs, chips, sodas and all the fixn’s. Our very own Curtis and Rhonda Welton, Deborah Sutton prepared the pavilion and cooked for the anglers and their guest. The associate pastor of the Colonial Baptist Church of Stafford Keith Herdon provided an inspirational message titled ‘Are You a Keeper’. The Lord touched hearts with 8 anglers rededicated their life to Christ. The committee, anglers and I want to thank Pastor Keith Herndon for brining such a special message to our anglers, guest and committee members. A special thank you to Anna Point Marina Owners and Management team for opening their hearts in allowing us the use of their facilities and providing a discount of in-store merchandise. My sincere appreciation to my lovely wife Deborah, Curtis and Rhonda Welton and Keith Jenkins for their support and hardwork making this a successful event. Our heartfelt thank you extended to all for a wonderful blessed night. Many hands helped make this event successful.

Congratulations to everyone who won over $1300 in door prizes which helps in raising funds for our division growth etc… Throughout the season the VA East Legacy Division will raffle off over $3,000 plus in retail value of merchandise at our events. Our duck decoy scavenger hunt was another success with the winners. In addition, the team of Kevin and Jacob Galenski became eligible to win 1 JB Custom rod (Just Out of the Money Consolation Prize). An additional 3 teams are eligible to win 1 JB Custom rod (The One That Got Away Consolation Prize). The winner will be chosen by a random drawing at our next event.

Randy and Kevin Beasley are the current Divisional Points Leaders vying for the plaques and associated prizes. Wayne Dorman and Dylan McGhee are the current Big Bag Award leaders with (18.61lbs). Kevin Beasley is the current Big Fish Award leader with (6.06 lbs). Year end winners will be awarded trophies to commemorate their accomplishments along with other associated prizes.

The next tournament of the season will be held June 2th on the James River followed by the pre-tournament meeting / event on June 1st, 2012. Information will be posted shortly on the VA-East Legacy division webpage.
