The 2017 Piedmont Bass Classics $10,000 Spring Team Bass Trail Championship at Kerr Lake had everything a great Bass Championship should have: Tension, Nervousness, Anxiety, Hopefulness, Happiness, Sadness, Great Weather, Rain, Lightning, Thunder, Food and Mud!!! What a great day with a great turnout, with 82 of the 85 qualified teams attending!!! A great end to the best Piedmont Bass Classics Spring Trail we have ever had. Our sponsors are the BEST!!! and there is no way I can thank them enough for their support thru cash and prize donations the give us! I also want to thank Mark Nelson of Triangle Trolling Motors for furnishing the pizza & drinks after this event!!

The weather was nice for Saturday with air temps around 70 degrees in the am on up to 87 in the pm. We did have a little shower around noon but the ‘storm’ hit at 3pm just in time for the weighin. Let me tell you, it was rough!! All we could do is batten down the hatches and keep weighing fish!  Water temps averaged about 79 degrees. Winds were nonexistent in the am up to about 7 mph in the afternoon. There were a lot of bass weighed in but most were small. We did have 5 bass over 5 pounds which is a good sign that Kerr is getting well.

The team of Kevin Woodall and Jerry Marshburn won the top honors in the Championship, weighing in 5 bass at 19.78 lbs. and also won the 2nd Place Big Fish Award (5.53 lbs.) for a total of $10,492 in cash & prizes. The team said most of their bass were caught off channel points using rigs with plastics.

Jaime Fajardo & Josh Hooks won the Trail Points Championship & won $1,000 in cash & Prizes for their efforts. They also won 11th Place in the event bringing the total winnings to $1,250

Billy Bledsoe and Brian McDonald came in 2nd place with 5 fish weighing 16.88 lbs. & also won 1st Place TWT to pocket a total of $3,440. 3rd place team, Jonathan Jones & Bryson Peed, had their best tournament this year and won $850 with 15.86 lbs. plus they took the 2nd Place TWT and 1st Place Big Fish (6.01 lbs.) to bring their total winning to $2,883. Erik Ross & Les Walters had their best finish of the year taking 4th Place with 15.26 lbs pocketing $655 for the day!260 fish were weighed in for a total of 622 pounds for an average of 2.39 lbs. each. Most of the larger fish were caught on Texas rigs, Carolina rigs, WLS shaky heads, Jig combos, Spinnerbaits and Crankbaits in 10-12′ ofwater off main point dropoffs. The bass are in Kerr, but the bite can be strange at times.I want to thank all the anglers that participated and all our sponsors that supported this trail.
