April 2022 Albermarle Sound/Roanoke River Fishing Report by Capt. Scooter Lilley
The Roanoke is heating up with a large majority of the stripers being in the river and headed up towards Weldon NC. With the water temps holding close to 60 degrees the fish are looking to spawn soon. The fish are moving everyday which puts me on the move to locate them daily. We’ve been catching good numbers on the main river and in creeks when conditions are right. I target these fish with single hook swimbaits that do the job! The single hook allows me to unhook the fish quickly and release the fish. I get asked all the time want certain lures work, yes they will but treble hooked baits are not fun to deal with! My choice of lure is a Zman 5 in. Deziel minnow rigged on a single swim bait hook 1/4 to 1/2 oz depending on conditions. If your looking for a fast action packed day on the water give me a call 252-799-9536.
